How To Refer A Client

New Alternatives accepts LGBTQ clients who are 16-24 years old and homeless or at-risk. We define homelessness broadly to include youth living on the street, youth in shelters or transitional living programs and youth without a permanent place to stay.

Clients are accepted on a walk-in basis on Mondays and Fridays from 11am-4pm at 410 West 40th Street, New York, NY 10018. Identification is not required, and a referral letter is not necessary. We also will provide verification of attendance upon request.

Mission Statement

Created in 2008, the mission of New Alternatives is to increase the self-sufficiency of homeless LGBT youth and to enable them to transition out of the shelter system and into stable adult lives. We do this by providing case management, education services, life skills training, community-building recreational activities, opportunities for self-expression, and support services for HIV+ youth. Our guiding principles are those of harm reduction, youth development, and empowerment.
