Bar-Tini Ultra Lounge Holds Benefit to Support Homeless LGBT Youth

New York, NY (November 2011) – Bar-Tini Ultra Lounge in Manhattan will be hosting “LGBT-INI @ BAR-TINI,” a benefit party in support of homeless LGBT Youth organization “New Alternatives” on Tuesday, November 15.

The event will run from 8:00 to 10:30PM and will feature a special performance by Broadway veteran Tituss Burgess, currently seen on NBC’s 30 Rock. DJ Lina Bradford will provide music. Renowned party promoters Kevin Wiltz and Frankie Carrasquillo will host the event.Drink specials, a raffle and a silent auction will raise funds for the organization.

This year, Governor Cuomo and the New York State Legislature cut funds for homeless youth programs by 50 percent.  Kate Barnhart, Executive Director of New Alternatives, says that there are several thousand homeless LGBT youth currently living in the city and fewer than 250 beds available for them.

“Government funding for homeless youth programs is being cut as the number of homeless kids increases,” said Kate. “Community support through voluntary contributions and fundraising events are essential to maintain our programs.”

New Alternatives helps homeless LGBT youth transition into stable adult lives by by providing range of services including case management, nutrition and clothing programs, group outingst, life-skills training, counseling,  and medical care referrals.

The organization also helps with GED and SAT preparation, as well as college applications and financial aid paperwork. The funds raised at “LGBT-INI @ BAR-TINI” will help the organization continue this important work.

BAR-TINI Ultra Lounge is in Hell’s Kitchen, at 642 10th Avenue, between 45th and 46th Streets in Manhattan. There will be a $10 donation entrance fee and a cash bar. For each $6 ROKK apple vodka drink purchased, $4 will go to New Alternatives. BAR-TINI is donating their venue free of charge.

Mission Statement

Created in 2008, the mission of New Alternatives is to increase the self-sufficiency of homeless LGBT youth and to enable them to transition out of the shelter system and into stable adult lives. We do this by providing case management, education services, life skills training, community-building recreational activities, opportunities for self-expression, and support services for HIV+ youth. Our guiding principles are those of harm reduction, youth development, and empowerment.
